St Augustine Style Thanksgiving Cranberries

Cranberries are a mainstay for Thanksgiving. Here’s a cranberry side dish that distinctly St Augustine Style.

St Augustine Style Thanksgiving Cranberries

Datil peppers are a local St Augustine treat. Generally these peppers are not available everywhere requiring a modification of this recipe by substituting jalapenos.
  • 12 oz fresh cranberries
  • 1/2 c dried pineapples
  • 1 tsp olive oil
  • 2 tbs seeded Datil peppers (or jalapenos)
  • 1 c pineapple juice
  • 1 c sugar
  • 1/4 c lemon juice
  • 1/4 c lime juice
  • salt to taste
  1. Sauté Datil peppers (or jalapenos) in 1 tsp olive oil on medium heat 1-2 mins Add pineapple juice and simmer until mixture is reduced by half
  2. Add sugar,lemon, lime juice and salt bring to a boil
  3. Add cranberries; simmering until they burst – remove from heat
  4. Stir in dried pinapple
  5. Chill at least 2 hours
  6. Eat and enjoy

Datil peppers are hotter than jalapenos. The measure of datil peppers or jalapenos can vary according to your taste.
