One of the most promising and relatively new businesses in St. Augustine is Abella’s Dance School, which is associated with the St. Augustine Community Ballet, and owned by Luis Abella. Abella’s school provides excellent training in ballet as well as teaching associated performing arts like “muscial theater.” In addition to providing classes at his dance school, Mr. Abella offers residents (and tourists) an opportunity to experience live ballet performances. In December Mr. Abella directed the “Nutcracker” ballet performance in downtown St. Augusitne and plans to continue the tradition.
A production of “Peter and the Wolf with Paquita Suite;” directed by Luis Abella, will be in St. Augustine. “Peter and the Wolf” is a classical ballet production based on a tale of a young boy who lives with his grandfather who admonishes Peter about the danger of wolves. The ballet tells the story of Peter, his grandfather, a cat, a duck, a bird and of course a wolf. “Paquita Suite” is part of the story of a young “gypsy girl” in Spain who is really of noble birth. Paquita saves the life of a young French officer.
